Firefighters and police were called out to reports that a vehicle was on fire on Washway Road in Sale at around 11 AM on 24 July.
A white van came to a stop just after Homelands Road; residents claimed the engine was on fire, and the driver escaped the van uninjured.
Firefighters had taped off the scene while they put out the fire, which had been intense for a while. The damage to the van was extensive and was later removed.
As we only have eyewitness reports at this time, who claim the fire was seen at the front of the van, it does suggest it was from the engine. If this is the case, anything could have started the fire—from fuel leaks to electrical faults; even very hot brakes could catch fire.
We have asked Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service for more information.
