Police got reports of a male who has been seen letting off several fireworks in Walton Park this afternoon (29 July) at around 4:30 PM.
It is thought the park had many children and parents present at the time the fireworks went off, which scared many of them. An eyewitness told us that he saw a man letting off the fireworks and was doing so near the football field.
Two officers arrived after the fireworks stopped and looked for the individual who let off the fireworks; they may have also looked for the burnt-out cardboard remains.
It’s illegal to be letting off fireworks in a public park, and if caught, you could get fined and face time behind bars according to legislation. It is also a bit odd to let off fireworks in July and irresponsible with many very young children around.
Parents and children left the park soon after the fireworks stopped and looked concerned.
Walton Park is a friendly park and has many residents enjoying the facilities and walking their dogs, but it has had a bit of a murky past with many crimes being committed, from drug-taking and selling to personal theft.
