Olympic gold medalist James Guy MBE revisited the newly transformed Move Altrincham wellbeing centre, where his swimming journey began, for an exclusive preview before its opening on 26th August.
James, who first learned to swim at the former Altrincham Leisure Centre, toured the new facilities on 18th August, alongside members of local swimming clubs who received expert tips from the champion. He expressed nostalgia, stating, “This is genuinely where it all started for me… I have no doubt they will inspire the next generation of swimmers.”
The centre features two swimming pools, a fitness suite, a sports hall, and a wellbeing spa. Jo Cherrett, CEO of Trafford Leisure, highlighted the centre’s commitment to inclusivity. Cllr Eve Parker noted James’ inspirational role in the community.
Move Altrincham will phase its reopening, starting on 26th August, welcoming back young swimmers who relocated during the renovations. Trafford Leisure also runs extensive swimming programs for all ages, emphasising inclusivity for those with special educational needs.
