Trafford Labour Broadheath Councillor Denise Western has sadly died after a short illness it was confirmed by Trafford Council today (22 August)

Denise is the mother of MP Andrew Western and was first elected to represent Broadheath in 2012, she was a popular councillor and had been the Chair of Trafford’s Children’s Scrutiny Committee.

Trafford Labour leader and leader of Trafford Council paid tribute to her on social media site X “Such very sad news today.Denise was a wonderful person, great colleague and supportive friend to all our group members.May she rest in peace, my thoughts are with MP Andrew Western and his family at this time.”

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said:

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cllr Denise Western, who died peacefully in her sleep this morning following a short illness.

Denise was first elected to represent Broadheath in 2012 and during her time as councillor held a number of important roles, including Chair of Trafford Council’s Children’s Scrutiny Committee.

Our deepest sympathies are with Denise’s family and friends at this sad time.”
