Former professional boxer Ricky Hatton has sadly died after being found in his Manchester home early this morning.

Police were called to his home after a neighbour became concerned, they got into his house and found him unresponsive in his bed,

It is currently unknown why the boxing legend died; however, police confirm at this time that there were no suspicious circumstances.

He had a stellar boxing career loved by millions of fans worldwide. Despite retiring from boxing, he continued helping others under ‘Hatton Promotions.’ He became the trainer of Tyson Fury’s brother Tommy and was in his corner for the Deontay Wilder match in 2018; he also trained other boxers.

Hatton was also involved with some charities and did some appearances. He came to Sale in recent times to present a defibrillator to Sale West Community Centre and met local Tory councillor Rob Duncan (Pictured) at the presentation.

The legendary boxer though had some mental health issues and it is believed he also had some addictions; however, despite these problems, he continued onwards and remained positive, like the true fighter he was. He was even planning to return to the ring again later this year.

He had some weight issues to overcome but was gearing up for this comeback fight with a newly turned professional fighter in December.

The ‘Hitman,’ as he was often called for his lightning-fast and powerful punches, was a Manchester City fan and was friends with Oasis stars Liam and Noel Gallagher, who simply said, “Rest in Peace Legend.” Boxer Amir Khan said: “Today we lost not only one of Britain’s greatest boxers but a friend, a mentor, a warrior, Ricky Hatton. As fighters, we tell ourselves we’re strong — we train, we sweat, we take hits, we get up.”

This is a sad day for Manchester and for the sport of boxing as we remember one of our own, one of the greatest fighters to ever walk in the ring. RIP Ricky Hatton.
