When the application was submitted by Padel Central to have three Padel Courts on a former basketball court next to the Fuse in Partington it seemed like a great idea.

Padel Courts in Partington: Video and picture by Andy Pickens

The application was approved, and soon after, work began to build the Padel Courts. They are now fully open and proving to be very successful, but there is a bit of a problem!

On the application, it clearly states that the courts need to be shut no later than 10 PM; however, on the Padel Central website, it says 2300 hrs (11 PM). Residents opposite the Fuse have been experiencing sound and on-going parking issues.

We have been given a video showing the courts, and the sound was very loud and well after the time that was stated on the application. The same individual sent us images and information that he had contacted Trafford Council many times, including a Partington Parish Councillor. He has now contacted a Trafford Labour Councillor about the issues.

According to the Noise Impact Statement, the sound should be less than that of the environment at the times residents are being affected, using mostly predictions from WHO (World Health Organization) on what the sound levels should be and a survey taken by a Sound Engineer. This also shows that even the houses that could be affected by noise shouldn’t have any problems even at night.

In one part of the Noise Impact Statement, it basically tells people to shut the windows! It seems to be full of predictions more than actual sound testing. We contacted the manager of the Padel Courts, and he seemed surprised at the resident claiming the noise was bad gone midnight!

In conclusion, it seems either Trafford or the Padel Courts Centre have got the timing wrong, and it would be for the manager, in any case, to make sure the sound levels are reduced during the early evening. Maybe he could hire a sound engineer randomly when the courts are all full and get readings; Trafford have sound monitors that could be used.

No one has any issues with the Padel Courts and are in favour of it but want to resolve this situation as soon as possible.

With this accurate reading at hand and having the right time for the courts to close, this should help the residents opposite the Fuse rightly enjoy the peace they once had.

As an update we can reveal the manager of the Padel Courts is now closing at 10 pm after Trafford Council gave him a week to change it, so long as its kept the same the residents opposite are happy with the result, we thank both Trafford and the manager for helping get the right result.
