Women’s and girls’ rugby was on center stage this weekend as the Rugby World Cup came to a climax at Twickenham Stadium with the England Red Roses taking on the challenge of Canada in the final.
They did it for the girls! The Red Roses won the Women’s Rugby World Cup with a 33-13 victory over Canada to claim the title of World Champions! Tries came from Ellie Kildunne, Amy Cokayne, Alex Matthews (2), and Abbie Ward to seal the historic win.
Trafford MV Rugby Club congratulates the players and coaching staff on their amazing success.
The Club was very proud to have hosted the Wales Ladies for their training camp during the Tournament, with the club’s excellent facilities meeting the high requirements of international sport.
The players all made clear their determination to inspire the next generation of female rugby players, and clubs up and down the country will be looking to schools and parents to share rugby with the girls in their classes and family/friendship groups.
Trafford MV Women’s Rugby Club has an open invitation for girls and women of all ages to get in touch and come to their club to see what the game is about. A full introduction to the game will be given, so don’t worry if a rugby ball has never been picked up and passed.
Girls-only rugby is available from ages 10 years upwards – younger girls are integrated with boys as they all learn the skills of the game together. If you have any interest in playing the game, then please message wilfdooley@virginmedia.com for your enquiry to be dealt with.
Trafford MV Under 14 girls will be playing at home this coming Sunday against Littleborough at 1:00 pm if you would like to check a game out and introduce yourself.
We look forward to seeing lots more girls having the opportunity to play rugby and shed some of the stereotypes set up for girls and women.
