The lighter nights are almost over for another year as the clocks go back one hour on October 26. We will then see the light fade at around 4 PM and dark at 4:45 PM or slightly longer depending on weather conditions.
Many politicians and others have had discussions in the past to keep our time zone the same for safety reasons, as more people statistically have more road accidents during the darker nights; however, nothing has come of it so far.
The lighter nights slowly return a day after the Winter Solstice on December 21, although you won’t see much change until around March 2026.
In the distant future, as the moon continues to slow down, things will be a little different as the days will get longer. For every century, it gets longer by 1.78 milliseconds. It also moves away from the Earth by 3.8 cm per year.
