On a fine autumn afternoon, Trafford MV’s (TMV) education at the higher level of rugby continued as they took on a well-drilled New Brighton side.
The first half was fairly evenly contested as both packs battled hard and a young TMV back line defended bravely.
Trafford player/coach Aaron Booth at stand-off kept his team in contention with an early penalty followed by a try and conversion. The home side had the edge, and TMV needed to have a stronger tackle defense. New Brighton built up a narrow 17-10 lead at the break.
The second half was a bit more defined as the seaside side’s back line came more into the game. A regular supply of ball brought opportunities to attack, and the points margin gradually grew into a convincing lead.
TMV’s only response in the second period was a try from the grafting Chris Ward, while New Brighton tightened their grip for a good 41-15 win to collect all 5 points from the game.
The defeat saw TMV slip to 10th, ahead of winless Aspull and Broughton Park, with the leading teams in ADM League 1 being undefeated Warrington and Eccles.
This coming weekend, Trafford MV head into Lancashire to face a strong Tarleton side who are sitting in 6th position. Trafford’s search for local talent continues, and any interested local players should contact Jamie Butler at mensrugby@tmvrfcc.co.uk
