The Trafford 10k running event, rearranged three times due to the delays in fixing the tiny sinkhole on Covershaw Lane, is back this Sunday starting at 9:30 am in Partington.

Due to the rescheduled event taking place, some roads will be closed.

This race, although it comes too soon after the Manchester Half Marathon, is fast-paced and is always a sell-out due to the flat course. Trafford Council, finally, after many years of asking, has long fixed Chapel Lane, and it now has a great surface to run and cycle on.

The weather looks good for the weekend, as high pressure is still over the UK, so it will be great for running. Despite this, the temperature will be lower, and the possibility of patchy fog should make it even better.

If you are heading towards Altrincham from Partington, a diversion will be in place while the roads are closed, which is expected to be lifted just after midday.

The next Trafford 10k will take place sometime in March 2026, so if this or even the Manchester Half Marathon has inspired you to put on your running shoes, now is the time to get training! If you are new to running, we suggest you take it easy at first and just have a relaxing jog.

Getting down to your local running club is a good way to get into running on a nice surface with like-minded people. You will be with others at the same standard, and you will improve faster and make some new friends along the way.

Trafford AC at Longford Park, Stretford, or Sale Harriers Manchester at Crossford Bridge, Sale, along with Altrincham off Park Road, Timperley, offer great facilities and coaching for all standards of runners. Often, training will include road running, strength training, and running drills. There are other running groups in Trafford to check out as well.
