A by-election was called in the Broadheath ward yesterday (16 October) after the death of ex Labour councillor Denise Western.

The candidates had a bit of time to prepare and to show the voters what plans they had for the ward if they won the contest, being seen to be doing something is as important than just merely putting promises on a leaflet.

A total of 4,389 people in the ward voted and the results are below:

Louise Bird: Liberal Democrats (841)

Deborah Rhodes: Reform (723)

Alexander Philip Young: Green Party (204)

Stephen John Farndon: Independent (22)

So it was a big night for the Tories and Dr. Kaushik Chakraborty, who won with a big majority over Labour, who had to settle for second place, and Lib Dems’ Louise Bird doing very well in third place.

The Reform candidate Deborah Rhodes settled for 4th with some issues, as the rules state that you cannot stand for election while working for the council. Information passed on to us by a reliable source indicates she is working for Trafford Leisure Trust CIC, which is fully owned by Trafford Council.

It is likely an investigation could be underway if it is found she is still working with Trafford Leisure Trust; if so, she could face disqualification and more action could follow.

Despite Reform’s issues here in Trafford, it was the Tories who took gold and gave Labour a fright as they slip further down the ladder with the murky clouds of gloom that the current Prime Minister and front bench of complete incompetence are frankly not only concerning but scary!
