Both Altrincham and Partington switched on their Christmas lights during the evening of 22 November, with big crowds coming out to enjoy the events.

People braved the cold conditions to see how good the lights and the entertainment were, and no one was disappointed. Although Manchester United footballer Matheus Cunha cancelled his visit due to an injury during training, Altrincham was rocking! and the lights were insane.

It was probably just as well Cunha didn’t attend, as many more fans would have tried to get closer to the stage, which could have caused some issues. It was left to Coronation Street actor Sam Aston, aka Chesney, to switch on the lights, which went down very well with the crowd.

In Partington, they had a great time, although it was more low-key than Altrincham’s switch-on. It was a great success, with lots of people coming out to the event, with the highlight in Partington being the US police cars that were on show.

Although the lights were similar to last year, and the tree being the same with lots of lights wrapped around it and never disappoints people, the organisers of the Partington event have to be congratulated and shown some imagination to bring about the idea of the police cars.

Both events were magic this year and put everyone in the right mood despite all the craziness of 2025 going on in the UK, and the kids will be full of hope that they will get the presents they want from parents delivered by Santa.

This year’s Christmas will be the best one yet for everyone, and don’t forget the Sale events, which you can find here: https://www.lifeinsale.com/guide/things-to-do-in-sale-this-christmas. The Santa on a Barge along the Bridgewater Canal and Chestnut Drive lights switch-on are the standout events, although you will find many more great events in Sale this Christmas.

Timperley will switch on their Christmas lights on 29 November between 5 and 7pm in Timperley village, due to this event taking place a part of Stockport Road will be closed and diversions will be in place.

Its been a hugely successful time for Trafford this Christmas and much more to come for the residents of the best borough in Manchester.
