Walton Park Sports Centre in Sale is to temporarily close due to important maintenance of the electrical system of the entire building.
What we know so far is that the insurers are not going to continue the insurance past the 27th of November until the electrical work is completed. It was first thought the sports centre would close until the new year; however, the latest updates at the time of publishing seem to indicate that some hope has been found.
The weights club has announced on its Instagram account that they might be able to reopen again 5 or 6 days after the Sports Centre closes. We believe the temporary solution the weights club is discussing is a limited time they can reopen; if they get this temporary fix, it might be that the club can run for a couple of hours a day.
What’s not instantly clear at this time is how long this maintenance will take and how long the insurers will take to give the Sports Centre the thumbs up. The Sports Centre houses an artificial 5-a-side football pitch, a very successful rowing club, and a children’s dance club.
Although not confirmed, our source tells us that some issues with funding are the reason behind the delays in getting the maintenance sorted out long before the insurance runs out on the 27th of November. If this is correct and someone cannot afford it, then a resolution may have to be found. Either way, this needs to be resolved as soon as possible.
All will have no options but to close on the 27th of November until the insurers give the green light, unless they can get a couple of hours to open, as with the weights club. This is a fast-moving story and we will update this article with any updates after publishing.
Anyone who has memberships for the gym will be frozen, and once reopened, will resume again. So, your membership will be extended for the days the gym is closed. It is not yet known what the other clubs are going to do.
