Puddle Ducks Mid Cheshire have recently begun this year’s Winter Water Safety talks, starting with visits to schools in Macclesfield and nurseries in Hale Barns and Wythenshawe.

The initiative aims to promote water safety through free talks to help educate children about the importance of staying safe around open water, particularly during the winter, when ice and snow can make these places more dangerous than usual.

The sessions include interactive elements with children helping Puddle Ducks’ teacher Charlotte to identify the potential risks around lakes and rivers, particularly of walking on or near ice-covered ponds, and develop ideas for how they could keep themselves safe, using the RLSS Water Safety Code.

They also discuss the importance of always calling 999 in an emergency, especially if someone has fallen into cold water. Puddle the Duck then helps the children practice how to keep themselves afloat if they fell into water by floating on their back in a starfish position, as well as assisting someone else if they were in trouble in the water.

Puddle Ducks Mid Cheshire’s new General Manager, Chris Cheers, commented: “Water safety is a vital lifesaving skill, and one that we weave through all of our lessons at Puddle Ducks. However, we know not every child has access to swimming lessons, and so we want to bring this hugely important awareness to as many children as possible. I am so proud of the work we do through our Water Safety initiatives, and we know the children who experience our talks love them too!”

Puddle Ducks provides award-winning swimming classes for children from birth to 10 years old. Teachers focus on creating a nurturing environment, which supports independent swimming for children of all abilities.

Puddle Ducks Mid Cheshire will be running more Winter Water Safety talks in January – if you would like to book a free talk for your school or nursery in Northwich, Sale, Hale Barns, Macclesfield, or Cheadle, please get in touch at marketing.midcheshire@puddleducks.com.
