A new survey from AO.com has revealed the UK’s gaming addiction, with people from Trafford reportedly planning to spend over £1,100 on gaming this Christmas.

AO’s data has uncovered the UK’s biggest gaming regions, with residents in the Trafford and Greater Manchester area saying they plan to spend around £476 on gaming accessories alone this Christmas – creating a total spend of up to £1,176, depending on the type of console they choose.

The study found half the nation describes themselves as gamers, and with one in three admitting they plan to invest in a new console this Christmas, it’s clear gamers are going big with their spending this festive season.

The data also revealed that the average Brit spends around £424 on their gaming accessories alone – ranging from gaming chairs to lighting and screens. Add in that the average cost of a console this year ranges from £400 to £700, and Brits are forking out well over £1,000 to create their perfect gaming setup.

The newly released Nintendo Switch 2 has been hailed as a top gift this Christmas, retailing at £395.99 alongside the highly anticipated PS5 Pro, available for £699.99, showing that expert gamers will be splashing the cash to make the most of their hobby this festive period.

Nick Bunce, gaming and tech expert at AO.com, said: “The UK gaming scene is growing year on year, and our survey reveals just how many people are looking to get into gaming this Christmas.

“It can be hard to know the best place to start, so we’re pleased to help shoppers know what items they need to start building the best setup, with a more reasonable price point.”
