Trafford MV Rugby Club enters 2026 with a keen eye on the weather as the cold snap descends on the country, putting a question mark over all local amateur sporting fixtures.

Leaving the niceties of the festive season behind, the time has come for Trafford MV to knuckle down and work hard to turn their form around after a poor first half of the season.

The halfway point comes this weekend as TMV welcomes local rivals Eccles to MacPherson Park in Sale (M33 6LR) for a 2:15 pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon.

This fixture sees yet another huge challenge for Trafford’s young side as they battle to get off the foot of the table. Eccles, on the other hand, have won 7 of their 10 games played, seeing them command a healthy 3rd place in the Counties 1 ADM Lancashire & Cheshire League.

While the focus at Trafford MV is primarily on the 1st XV, the club is always on the lookout for new local rugby talent to compete for places on all 3 of their senior men’s teams, and indeed for their women’s team!

The Club is a truly amateur side with all places up for grabs to competitive players with good skill levels. The facilities at the club are also excellent and provide a good basis for players looking to grow in the game and make their next step on the rugby pathway.

Youth Rugby will also return to Trafford MV this weekend, on Sunday, as the Club opens its doors to its mini/junior/teenage sections of the Club as its young players get their boots back on after the Christmas break.

New players of all ages and abilities are always welcome at Trafford MV, and the club puts a special invitation out there to all young people who have never picked up a rugby ball before to come on down and give Rugby a try – drop a message to wilfdooley@virginmedia.com for further info.

The Club sends out a message to all local rugby fans wishing them a Happy New Year for 2026 and calling on them to give some support to a local grassroots Club looking to provide the best facilities for local amateur rugby players through good playing, changing, physio, gym, and social amenities for players on all teams.
