Manchester United have today parted ways with head coach Ruben Amorim after a high-level board meeting was held at Old Trafford this morning.

Amorim came to United in the back end of 2024 as a Head Coach and not a manager, something he seemed to be happy with until yesterday after a post-match rant following the Leeds game. Amorim wanted to be the manager, not the head coach.

His time at United was dreadful; Amorim is a good manager, but he is too defensive for Manchester United, and his tactics were something that was not working out. The constant excuses and moody pre- and post-match media conferences didn’t help him.

Amorim was as stubborn as a bull with his formation, although in recent games he had to drop this to a more suitable formation that the players understood, which showed on the pitch. However, this change was more to do with players either being injured or not available due to some playing in the African Nations Cup.

The players he had were not good enough for what Amorim wanted, and despite some good signings like goalkeeper Lammans, Cunha, and Mbeumo, it just wasn’t enough, and the pressure from both fans and media didn’t help Amorim. It was only a matter of time before he either walked away or was sacked.

At the time of publishing this article, Amorim has yet to respond to his sacking and what potential team he is to ‘manage’ next.

United now are to replace Amorim with Darren Fletcher until a new manager can be found. Some names have been mentioned, although we hope it will be Pochettino; although he is currently the Argentina manager, he might be convinced to come to Old Trafford.

The good news for United fans and for Fletcher is that Fernandes and Mount are due to make their return soon and may have some part to play in the next game against Burnley this Wednesday.

A statement on Manchester United’s website said:

“Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.

With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.

The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.

Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday.”
