As games across the North West were called off due to frozen pitches, Trafford MV (TMV) were able to play as Didsbury Toch switched venue to a 4G all-weather pitch at Platt Lane.

Didsbury started the game 2nd in ADM League 1 and bottom-placed TMV knew they were in for a long afternoon from the opening whistle.

The excellent playing surface suited the good running back line of the home team, and they made the most of it. Tries came frequently for Didsbury and it was a ‘backs to the wall’ defensive display from the underdogs. Trafford are putting faith in their youth this season with hope that the ‘tough love’ will see these players learn from their experience to benefit in the long term.

The final score 75 – 12 gave little to TMV, who picked up tries from No. 8 Micah Dyos and Fly Half Aaron Booth, who also converted his own try. The first half had been fairly competitive with only 2 tries separating the teams at half time, but the second half saw the score ramp up for the home team.

Trafford MV must now look ahead to a run of 3 home games against Broughton Park, New Brighton, and Eccles, which could determine their fate or fortune for this season.

Trafford MV are always looking to strengthen their squad with the addition of local amateur rugby talent – contact wilfdooley@virginmedia.com if you are interested in competing for a place in their playing squad.
