This is a Breaking News Report (11.55pm)

Police were called to reports of a firearms discharge on Higher Road, Urmston at around 8.42pm on 16 January. Emergency services attended the scene and found one person with serious injuries and is currently in hospital.

As a result of this, police closed Higher Road to the public and it will remain this way for several hours as the investigation gets underway.

Police are asking the public to contact them if you have any information. We will further update or create a new article once more is known.

Chief Inspector, Mark Allinson, Force Critical Incident Manager, said: “At around 8:42pm (Friday 16 January), we were called to reports of a firearms discharge on Higher Road, Urmston.

“Emergency services have treated one casualty at the scene with serious injuries.

“A scene is in place and Higher Road remains closed off to the public.

“We have deployed extra patrols around the local area while we continue our enquiries.
