Back to the Garden Childcare, the Altrincham-based children’s day nursery business, has completed the refinancing of its existing lending facilities, transitioning from LHV Bank to Barclays Bank.

The deal expands on the McGoff Group’s existing banking relationship with Barclays, marking its first lending facility with Back to the Garden Childcare. It introduces a new five-year term facility, delivering a significant reduction in borrowing costs and providing the business with strengthened financial certainty.

Chris McGoff, CEO of Back to the Garden Childcare and Director at the McGoff Group, said:

This refinancing is an important step for the business from a financial and strategic perspective. Moving to a five-year facility with more competitive pricing gives us enhanced certainty, reduces our cost base, and allows us to plan confidently. It puts the business on a stronger financial footing and supports our long-term objectives.”

James Hodgson, Relationship Director from Barclays Corporate Bank, said:

“We are pleased to support Back to the Garden Childcare in this next chapter for their business. The business has a strong ethos, a clear strategy, and an experienced management team, and we are pleased to provide a funding solution that offers long-term certainty and flexibility. This refinancing reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting high-quality businesses that play a vital role in their local communities.”

Emma James, Operations Director for Back to the Garden Childcare, added:

Having that financial stability in place allows us to focus fully on what matters most: the children, our teams, and the families who place their trust in us. It gives us the confidence to continue growing Back to the Garden in the right way, investing in high-quality childcare, enriching environments, and the people who make our nurseries special.”

Back to the Garden Childcare is known for its nurturing, nature-inspired approach to early years education, creating warm, engaging environments where children are encouraged to explore, play, and develop at their own pace. With a strong focus on wellbeing, creativity, and community, the nursery continues to support families across Altrincham.

With Back to the Garden Bowdon opening in 2026, growth is centered on increasing the number of high-quality environments while maintaining the standards, culture, and ethos that define the Back to the Garden offer.

Back to the Garden was advised by Hive Capital Advisory, a specialist real estate capital advisory firm based in Manchester.

Commenting on the deal, Nick White, Managing Director from Hive Capital Advisory, said:

“We’re delighted to have advised Back to the Garden on their refinance with Barclays. The business is on a fantastic trajectory, and this facility gives it the financial footing to continue its growth into future settings.”
