The Urmston Plan will bring regeneration opportunities and other wider improvements to the town; the plan was given the green light recently by Trafford Council’s Executive.
This long-term plan aims to help Urmston improve its appearance and enhance accessibility and active travel in the area, which means more cycling infrastructure and hopefully, one day, a road could be built for cyclists who live in the south of the borough to avoid having to go down the dangerous and congested Washway Road in Sale.
Architects working alongside technical consultants were appointed to produce the plan, which was shown at several consultation events with residents who had the opportunity to express what they liked and disliked about Urmston.
The plan is for several public realm improvements on multiple roads in the area, including Higher Road, Flixton Road/Croft Banks Road, Gloucester Road, and on land next to the library.
Re-development opportunities have been identified on Croft Banks Road, Urmston Market, the former Ridings Store, at Victoria Parade, and at the former TMBC depot building.
Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s executive member for Economy and Regeneration, said:
“The Urmston Plan is great news for local residents and businesses as it has created a positive vision for the town that works for the community and businesses.
Trafford Council is dedicated to enhancing our four town centres: Stretford, Altrincham, Sale, and Urmston. The new Urmston Plan has been created with input from partners and residents. It will provide a framework for the town centre to serve the needs of residents and businesses now and in the future, and it will help us apply for funding when it’s available.
