The Trafford 10k running event takes place this Sunday in Partington (1 March) at 9.30 am, which means roads will be closed for several hours during the morning.

Roads that will be closed will be Chapel Lane, Covershaw Lane, Sinderland Lane, Whitehouse Lane, School Lane, Back Lane, Henshall Lane, and Redhouse Lane from 8.30 am till around midday, although the organiser of the sell-out event has said the roads will be open sooner.

All car parking spaces will be full in the area, which means some competitors will use side roads to park up. For the runners, a change of Race HQ will be made, and instead of it being near the start on Chapel Lane, it will be at Partington Youth Centre due to on-going works at the sports centre.

The good news for the runners is the surface is near perfect; although some roads have not had any work done to them, they are still good enough to run on.

Clubs representing Trafford in this 10k race include Trafford Athletic Club, Sale Harriers Manchester, and nearby Chorlton Runners. Lots of unattached runners from Trafford will also be running.

This is a fast course, so if it’s your first time, don’t go out too fast even if you are in good condition. Just enjoy the race and get a time; once you have a time, then you can concentrate on bringing this down in future races. There are many 5 and 10k races in Manchester, including the Great Manchester Run event in May.

Make sure you don’t eat much the day before and keep hydrated throughout. Wear good trainers for every event and the right pair of socks, and if it’s fairly cool or raining, wear a pair of running tights and a very breathable running jacket that will also give you some waterproofing.
