A new housing development is to be built on the former Partington Social Club that was burned down in an arson attack in 2018.

Once completed it will have 24 new one-bedroom flats and will be for social housing. The car park at the front will be redesigned and have 21 spaces with bin storage. The building will be set back with new trees planted, which will slightly shield it from Warburton Lane.

This residential development was supposed to be 30 flats but has been reduced to 24. The initial application was submitted by the applicant in 2021 and was approved by the council with some conditions. One of these conditions was to clean up what was left after the fire; the ground around and underneath the social club was toxic, and even the water pipes had to be cleaned before any building could be done.

Work has already started at the site, which we believe is for the clearing of the toxic waste. Once done, the building can get underway, which should be in the summer or early autumn of this year.

Residents will be rightly concerned about yet more accommodation being built in the area. We have read that the Parish Council seemingly does not like the style of the new flats, and we agree it looks more like a community church from the front, but the flats are ultra modern and will be liked by all the new tenants.

Because of so many homes being built in the area and many more to come in the next year or so, even 24 extra flats are not helping the situation. Trafford Council are going housing mad under Labour, and with a huge housing list of people waiting over 10 years, it is understandable! Many people will be concerned, though, as to who might be jumping the queue these days!
