More details have emerged about the service which we are told will start from Sale on Sept 10 which just so happens to be the date Manchester United play neighbours City at Old Trafford.

Cycles will be allowed on to the boats but will be limited space, and the speed of these boats will be almost 10mph much faster than the 4mph some people are suggesting.

The service will integrate with public transport and will offer routes from Trafford Centre to Manchester and Sale to Old Trafford and so on.

The cost of travelling by boat will be revealed very soon.
