A 42-year-old male who lived in a flat on Gloucester Road in Urmston died from a single knife wound to the neck on Oct 30 at around 7pm.
Officers found the body of the male at the flat and has now been formally identified as Philip Owen with a single stab wound to his neck.
Detectives launched an investigation and have now arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
Paying tribute to Philip, his family said: “He was a good brother and son and always worked really hard at everything he did, he could male friends in a second and was a really likeable person who lived life to the full”
Detective Superintendent Jon Chadwick head of GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “This is now a murder enquiry and we will do everything we can to bring those responsible to justice.
“Our thoughts are with Philip’s family at this difficult time and specially trained officers are on hand to offer their support.
“We are now appealing for the public’s help with out investigation, any information you have could be a vital part of the jigsaw.
“The loss of any loved one is heart breaking but for the victim’s family and friends to lose him like this must be unbearable and I would urge anyone with knowledge to get in touch with us.”
