A man has been arrested and now charged after a woman was raped at knifepoint in Old Trafford, Neil Anthony Thompson aged 27 from Chorlton has been charged with rape, sexual assault, and aggravated burglary and remanded in custody to appear before Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court today Nov 16.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning of November 14 police arrested a 27-year-old man at an address in Chorlton on suspicion of rape and aggravated burglary.

The arrest is in connection with an incident which happened at around 7:30pm on November 12 in Old Trafford.

A 22-year-old woman was at her home when an unknown man forced his way in carrying a knife.

He held the knife to the woman’s face and ordered her to hand over any money she had. He then raped her at knifepoint.

The man left the address sometime later and police were called.

Detective Inspector Carl Gilbert of GMP’s Trafford borough said: “This has been a fast-moving investigation that has seen a significant number of enquiries carried out since this horrific incident took place.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we continue to have a team of specially trained officers providing the victim with support at this difficult time. Her welfare remains one of our top priorities.

“I would continue to ask that anybody who thinks they may have information to please contact police as a matter of urgency.”
