A PIA (Pakistan International Airways) regional jet flight PK-661 has crashed 25 miles away from Islamabad today around 3pm local time.

On board was forty two passengers and six crew all are thought to have perished in the crash.

The AT-42 turbo prop regional aircraft took off from Chitral Airport in Pakistan and was on route to Islamabad when it encountered problems with one if its engines, crew contacted Air Traffic Control and issued a squawk 7700 emergency, a short time later ATC lost contact with the doomed aircraft.

Residents of a nearby village heard what is thought to be an explosion, photos of the aircraft can be seen on the website aviation herald.

It is not known at this time if any of the passengers was from the UK, but will update this article when more is known.
