Police were called at around 3.20pm to reports that a member of staff was stabbed with a broken bottle following an altercation.

Staff at the Northenden Road store attempted to detain the man who they thought was shoplifting, the man got assistance from another man who was waiting outside the store, it was during the scuffle a bottle of alcohol was dropped and it smashed, the glass was then used to stab the staff member in the back.

A member of staff from a neighbouring store told us that the offenders also cut the staff members face with the same bottle and needed hospital treatment, although police did not confirm this.

Police said no arrests at this time were made.
