As pre-season gets under way at MacPherson Park Trafford MV now have their first competitive fixture of the season lined up. Firstly come a couple of friendly fixtures away at Llandudno RFC  and at home against Lymm 2nd XV on Aug 12th and 19th respectively.

These are then followed by the 1st round of The Lancashire Trophy when MV will travel the not too long distance to Heaton Moor.
MV’s 1st XV squad are currently working hard on their fitness and strength and over the next couple of weeks more ball work and game play situations will be worked on the training paddock as the intensity begins to build as the League season gets closer.

MV’s opening League match will be away at Bolton on Sept 2nd. A bonus for MV this season will be fewer long distance away trips to Cumbria as 3 out of last seasons Cumbrian opponents fell foul to relegation. A crunch fixture will be against local opponents Eccles who have dropped down into the Lancs/Cumbria division.

All is not about the 1st XV at MV however as the Club are looking to build upon their current squads of 14-16 year old players to grow into a contending junior and senior Colts XV over the next couple of seasons.

MV are looking for young rugby players who may be playing the game at school and would like to improve their game with more practice and coaching.

The club is also looking to find those golden nuggets of talent that are hidden in schools that don’t play Rugby. Many Trafford schools do not have experienced staff to coach rugby so Trafford MV are keen to hear from pupils at non rugby schools and indeed those schools themselves that may be keen to introduce the game to pupils.

Girls Rugby will get a high-profile over coming weeks as The Womens World Cup takes place in Ireland during August. Trafford MV will be encouraging young girls to join us in September to learn the game from 4 years of age – who knows in years to come local girls could be on the World Cup stage !

If you are interested in playing Rugby at Trafford MV at any age level please contact Greg Hawkins on 07834 857905 or drop Wilf Dooley a line at wilfdooley@virginmedia,com for further info.
