Trafford MV’s weekend game postponed due to a frozen pitch

With the first real cold snap of the winter and many area’s hit by snow the Northern Rugby fixture list was decimated and Trafford MV was one of many clubs that saw games called off due to frozen pitches making play unsafe.

The big game of the day saw a clash of Cumbrian sides Keswick and Aspatria at the top of the table which saw an exchange of places with Aspatria winning 17-8 to head the League with Christmas approaching.

The break does however give Trafford MV time to look at the levels of Rugby within the Club which show’s a healthy development with Rugby for all ages becoming the norm for this Sale based Club.

For many seasons the mini / junior rugby section at Trafford MV has been the envy of many a North West Club with young players starting at 4 years of age and progressing through to Senior Colts at Under 17 age group.

Several of MV’s older youth players having gone on to represent Lancashire and Cheshire age group teams – the latest being Rory Canham and Luke Cox in the Cheshire U20’s.

Fielding 3 senior teams on a regular basis maintains MV’s playing strength and now the Club is seeking to accommodate the occasional and former player too. The Club is looking to put an over 35’s Vet’s XV out in February (the second time this season) and are on the lookout for any older players that may wish to get involved. If good numbers can be got together regular monthly fixtures could be on the cards !

The Club has also adopted Walking Rugby for over 50’s (male and females in mixed teams) on Wed evenings at 6.30pm. This has taken off really well and we are looking to grow this in the new year and going into the spring months. On Wed evenings on a faster footing we also have Mixed Touch Rugby which is ideal for novices to learn the game or to try something a bit different.

If you are interested in getting involved in any of the activities mentioned then please contact Wilf Dooley on 01942 884542 or drop him a line at
