With all the rain we have had over the last couple of days, and more to come it was likely the catchments on the River Mersey would be on flood alert, and this morning the Environment Agency issued the warning.

River Mersey catchments in Trafford are at Altrincham, Sale and Urmston the Environment Agency website currently says “River levels have risen due to rain over night. Showers are forecast throughout the morning of Thursday 18 January and river levels will remain high. We are not expecting flooding to properties. Current forecasts suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions. We are constantly monitoring river levels and will update this message if needed.”
More rain is forecast for tomorrow although is thought to be light, river levels in the area are still rising and it may be some time before the alert is lifted.
(UPDATE) flood Alert no longer in force as of 6pm Jan 18.
