Friends of Woodheys Park in Sale has applied for funding so that they can hold a green gym in the park which will be run by experienced conservation volunteers and will be free for those that want to participate.
The green gym is simply looking after the park whilst keeping fit at the same time, and at your own pace! anyone can join in.
A spokesperson for Friends Woodheys Park said: “Green Gyms are fun and free outdoor sessions where participants will be guided in practical activities such as planting trees, sowing meadows, food growing, health walks and establishing wildlife ponds.
“They are run by experienced leaders from The Conservation Volunteers, who are based in Sale.
“Unlike other conservation projects, the emphasis is very much on health and fitness – volunteers warm up and cool down in preparation for a range of light to vigorous activities to suit all abilities
“In fact, almost a third more calories can be burnt in some Green Gym sessions than in an average aerobics class!
“What’s more Green Gyms are free to attend.”
It is important the park organisers get some feedback and have developed a questionnaire which you can take part in HERE
We think it’s a great idea and fully support it.
