Attempted abduction of a female in Urmston was not true

The investigation into the attempted abduction of a girl in the Urmston area has concluded.

On February 8th, a 17-year-old female teenager reported to police that she had been approached by a man who attempted to drag her down a ginnel between Eden Square and Flixton Road.

An investigation was launched however, earlier this week a disclosure was made to officers that the original report was not genuine, officers are working closely with partner agencies to ensure the teenager is receiving the appropriate support and safeguarding measures are in place.

Detective Sergeant David Jones of GMP’s Trafford Borough said: “We take every report of crime seriously and the welfare of the victim is always our priority.

“As soon as this report was made, specially trained officers began supporting her and we ensured that local officers were made aware of this incident to mitigate any danger to the public.”
