Sainsbury’s and Asda agreed a merger today, the deal will face some scrutiny by competition authorities before anything can officially go through.
If both companies get the green light, it will overtake Tesco with a combined revenue of £51bn.
Both bosses of Sainsbury’s and Asda have said their will be no job losses, although unions are sceptical to say the least.
It will also mean that Argos at Altrincham Retail Park might also close, as it would surely move into the new Asda store down the road on George Richards Way, the store at present is much too small and although has improved somewhat over the years still is not what it should be.
If the deal is approved, both Sainsbury’s and Asda have said that prices of food and other things would drop by 10% although this probably will not include Argos.
