Trafford Rowing Club had an early start on Sunday as they travelled to the River Lune in Lancaster in confident mood.

The early 7.30am start on Sunday on the River Lune in Lancaster seemed to help Trafford’s rowers win all but two races on the day.
The format of the day was unusual with a morning time trial with ranking crews of all ages and crew size competed which was based on a handicap system to provide a ranking based on best crews for their age.
All six boats from the club was ranked in the top 15 crews on the day in the time trial, the performance was very high.
From the time trial the crews were broken into groups of 4 with 2 head to head races the winner of each going to the final and the losers going to a 3rd and 4th place.
The format was a little different that all the Trafford crews performed so well in the time trial inevitably threw up some Trafford vs Trafford races.
The first of these pitted the men’s quad verses the WJ14 quad with the latter given a 33 second head start on the 800m course. Coxed brilliantly the WJ14 crew held their nerve and form and rowed the perfect race giving their competition no chance of closing the gap and despite a valiant effort from the men the WJ14 crew won by a clear margin.
They then went on to win the following race against a Lancaster University crew holding them at bay brilliantly in a race that saw the University quad get within a few metres of them.
In another Trafford versus Trafford Race the WJ15 double just held off a late charge from the J15 boys after a 21 second head start to hold the bragging rights.
Throughout the day only two Trafford crews was actually beaten by non-Trafford competition with WJ13, WJ14, WJ15 and mens crew dominating race after race.
The club have a busy schedule over the coming months with Nottingham and Northwich regattas next weekend and are feeling very positively about the season ahead.
