Be Scam Aware With scams on the increase Trafford Trading Standards are urging members of the public to be ‘Scam Aware’
Follow the tips so you are not the next victim:
- Be Suspicious, if you are contacted out of the blue, even if it’s from a name you recognise
- Don’t be rushed – you never need to make a decision straight away
- If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is
- Be wart if you are asked to pay in an unusual way like with vouchers
- Never send money to someone you have never met
- Never give your bank details unless you are certain you can trust the person contacting you
- Genuine computer firms do not make unsolicited phone calls to help fix your computer or laptop
- Suspect a scam? hang up, wait 10 minutes to clear the line or use another phone to call a genuine company using a number you have found, not one the caller gave you.
- Persuasive sales person on the other end of the phone? just say “No thank you” and end the call
Do not suffer in silence and report it to CAB helpline on 03454 040 506
