This morning O2 customers including Tesco Mobile, Giff Gaff and others that piggy back off the network were left without any data and for some people no signal.
O2 are saying the outage is because of a third-party which we understand is Ericsson and some software issue that has also affected networks on a global scale.
This outage is not the fault of O2 or those that piggy back off the signal, it did not stop some people complaining on social media more so to Tesco Mobile who took most of the blows.
In the past O2 have had some big outages the last one lasted around an hour before coming back to life again.
On the website the company said “One of our third-party suppliers has identified a global software issue in their system which has impacted us. We believe other mobile operators around the world are also affected. Our technical teams are working with their teams to ensure this is fixed as quickly as possible. We’d encourage our customers to use WiFi wherever they can and we apologise for the inconvenience caused”
O2 has around 32 million customers many with more than one phone, some are children who need the phone to be working, with this in mind it is hoped all will be resolved soon.
The network ask people to use the Wi-Fi, you can use any of the Wi-fi hotspots for free and any of the BT WiFi zones if you have BT Broadband, if you have ‘Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, Skype, or if you have an iPhone you can use iMessage to contact people.
At the time of publishing this article Giff Gaff was not working at all, we have had messages saying O2 was still down in the Sale area, so it is likely this outage will last longer than expected.
