A man from Trafford will appear in court after a woman was raped in the city centre.

Haiekel Miguel Dasilva Tchicalo (09/05/96) of Nancy Street (M15) Trafford has been charged with rape and will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Monday 21 January 2019.

At around 6:30am on Sunday 13 January 2019, a 22-year-old woman was walking along Liverpool Road and onto Water Street when she was approached by a man as she walked under a railway bridge.

The man grabbed her as she walked past before raping her. She managed to fight him off and a passing member of the public came to her assistance, and notified police as to what had happened.

The victim is being provided with support from specially trained officers.
