Trafford Rowing Club annual winter race is to be held on Feb 23rd , which takes in a a two-mile section of the Bridgewater Canal between Oldfield Quay marina and the club house at Walton park.
Over 150 boats, from the North West and from as far afield as Carrick-on-Shannon in Ireland, will compete in three divisions between 9AM and 4PM.
Upwards of 200 competitors, aged 13 to 73 and beyond, will converge on the club for a day of competition and companionship, as friends and rivals from different clubs gather to test themselves against each other and against their “previous bests”.
The boats set off at timed intervals from start lines at Oldfield Quay and (for younger competitors) at Park Road bridge in Timperley. The canal is narrow in places and exciting racing is guaranteed.
The Trafford RC club house at Walton park will provide a barbecue, hot and cold food and drinks.
Simon Reeves, chairman of Trafford Rowing Club, says “As a club we do take our racing seriously but we don’t take ourselves too seriously that we lose the friendly atmosphere in the club.
“New members are made to feel welcome and we have active recreational, veteran and junior sections as well as the men’s and women’s racing squads.”
Trafford Rowing Club teaches people of all ages how to row and to enjoy the sport. We hope people will come down to see what we’re doing, experience the excitement and the warmth of the welcome, and find out more about joining the club.
