The lady was approached by a Irish man at her home asking if she needed a tree knocking down, he briefly flashed an ID card at her which was so fast she could not get to read.

He proceeded to cut down a tree in her garden which she shared with other people and once done he waited for the woman to withdraw £400 from her bank.

The man is described as white, large build, and spoke with an Irish accent, he was wearing jeans, boots and a plaid shirt.

Be wary of tradesmen knocking door to door, out of the blue and never be rushed into a decision.

Trading Standards advice is never to do business on the doorstep. Always get quotes for work and ask friends, relatives and neighbours for recommended tradesmen. Report rogue traders to GMP on 101 or in an emergency dial 999
