Twenty ancient wooden coffins found in Luxor Egypt

Twenty ancient coffins were found by Egyptian Archaeologists in Luxor thought to be from 664-332BC.

Archaeologists have said this was one of the biggest discoverys in many years, the tombs were in great condition, all wooden coffins with inscriptions and colours, all tombs were closed when found.

The minister for antiquities Khaled Al-Anani and Dr Mustafa Waziri general of the supreme council of Antiquities is has inspected the work of the archaeologists at the Assasif cemetery.

A statement from the department of Antiquities said: “This discovery is the largest and most important discoveries that have been announced during the past few years as it includes far more  coloured wooden coffins, in a state of conservation, colours and inscriptions in full and still closed, and were revealed in the situation that left them, the ancient Egyptian where they were found gathered in a cache in two levels on on top of each other.”
