Detectives investigating a double stabbing in Piccadilly Gardens have released images of a man they wish to speak to.
The incident – which took place outside Morrison’s on Monday 10 February 2020 – left a 42-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy with serious injuries. The boy has since been released from hospital, whilst the man remains there in a serious but stable condition.
An 18-year-old man has been charged with two counts of section 18 assault and one count of possession of a knife in connection with the incident and appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court this morning.
A 21-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault, has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Police are continuing to urge anybody who witnessed the incident to come forward. Officers are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have footage showing the incident.
Detective Sergeant Paddy Connell, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said:
“Since this incident took place, we have been working round the clock to investigate and establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened.
“We have released these images in the hope that somebody will identify the man pictured and contact police. If you recognise this to be yourself then I would urge you to get in touch.
“We are continuing to treat this as a targeted attack and remain keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage which captured any part of the incident.”
