Don Mitchel 93 and from Timperley who has lived on Grasmere Road for over 70-years was happy to be back home and was also delighted with all the clapping and cheers from neighbours of all ages, this was a special homecoming.

Everyone was excited to see Don back home again after his stay in hospital, a true soldier he is, Don has many medals after serving in the armed forces, he was part of the ‘Royal electrical and mechanical engineers’ in World War 2.

With Don and all of those that gave their all in World War 2 and defeated Hitler who committed suicide on 30 April 1945, the Germans had nowhere to go, the leader was dead! and they surrendered at 02.41am on 7 May 1945.

We owe everything to the men and women of our armed forces who helped win that war, for the freedoms we have today are because of the effort these great people put in during WW2.
