Police lift cordons around Dane Road in Sale after a suspected WW2 bomb was found

Police got reports this afternoon ( 7 March 2021) that a member of the public had found a suspected WW2 bomb in the Bridgewater Canal at Dane Road in Sale.

The tow path and Dane Road was taped off by officers as they secured the area.

It seems a someone had been been magnet fishing and brought up the device, this has happened a fair bit and expect more bombs are waiting to be found.

In WW2 many thousands of smaller bombs were dropped by the Germans as they targeted big infrastructure, Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground was hit hard as was a lot of the surrounding area.

The bomb found today was destroyed by bomb experts at a unknown location.

Police came on social media to issue an update declaring all cordons have been lifted.
