Electric substation fire Broadheath

Police closed off George Richards Way near to the junction of Craven Road in Broadheath this morning (8 September 2021) due to a large fire that broke out at an electric substation.

The fire was so intense it needed three fire engines and specialist equipment to get the fire out, we were told the fire started at around 9am.

A plume of smoke could be seen for miles as firefighters tackled the blaze.

Electrical substations do not blow up often and we have been told for this moment it was an electrical fault that started the blaze.

The cordon has been lifted and firefighters were still at the scene making sure the fire was out.
