At around 12.48am in the early hours of this morning (20 December 2021) police were called to a report of a collision involving a cyclist and a silver VW Golf on Centenary Bridge, Trafford Park.

Emergency services attended and the cyclist – a man in his 60s – was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, assisted officers at the scene.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Constable Emma Kennedy, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a very tragic incident in which a man has lost his life and our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this terrible time.

“A full investigation into the cause of the collision has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.

“We would ask anyone with information or who may have dashcam footage from around the area between 12.30am to 12.50am to please contact GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting log 100 of the 20 December 2021.

“We are also particularly interested in speaking with the female passenger of the silver VW Golf who left prior to police arrival.”
