A TUI flight from Manchester Airport heading for Fuerteventura, Spain on 9 March 2022 had to come back to Manchester Airport in emergency mode.

Flight Radar 24: Tui flight in full emergency mode

The flight took off just after 8.30 am with 57 people on board the Boeing 738-8 aircraft and returned after dumping fuel around the Peak District around 45 minutes later due to suspected a tail strike on taking off.

The aircraft landed safely and passengers boarded a new aircraft some 7 hours later.

Although a tail strike is not thought to be too dangerous, the incident though will have weakened the aircraft and with the stresses on the entire aircraft during flight, it could end up in a disaster so the pilot of this aircraft did the right thing.
