Today Sunday 19 June 2022, officers are authorised to use Section 60 powers in Seymour Park and the surrounding area; including Ayres Road, Humphrey Road, Northumberland Road and Seymour Grove.

Under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, anyone in the defined area at the specific time can be stopped and searched.

The authorisation forms part of the response to the stabbing of a teenage boy yesterday (Saturday 18). He was taken to hospital. Two boys, aged 13 and 14, have been arrested on suspicion of assault.

Chief Inspector Shoheb Chowdhury, of GMP’s Trafford district, said: “We absolutely understand the impact events, like that of yesterday, can have on our communities and simply won’t tolerate it.

“This police force is committed to fighting, preventing and reducing crime whilst keeping people safe and that is our rationale for authorising today’s Section 60.

“Members of the public can expect to see extra officers in the area and there is a possibility that they themselves could be stopped searched. We thank them in advance for their cooperation.”

Greater Manchester Police can be contacted via or 101. Information about crime can also be shared anonymously via the independent charity – Crimestoppers on 08000 555 111.
