Former Chelsea and Italy football player Gianluca Vialli has died aged 58.
Vialli played for Italian sides Sampdoria and Juventus whilst gaining his first cap with Italy in 1985 he played 59 times for his country.
He signed for Chelsea on a free transfer in 1996 where he became player manager in 1998 and won the League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Cup Winners Cup.
Vialli’s health though was not good when in 2017 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Vialli is claimed to have said he is cancer free however in 2021 he was re-diagnosed and sadly his cancer was back, he had to leave all football duties to concentrate on his health.
Chelsea FC issued a statement: This is truly an awful day for Chelsea Football Club, Gianluca’s legend will live on at Stamford Bridge.
“His impact as a player, a coach and most importantly as a person will be forever written across our clubs history.
“We send out heartfelt and deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
