At the time of publishing Manchester Council is still holding the New Years firework display despite weather warnings.
The event is scheduled to be from 10pm until 2pm at St Peters Square, it is expected thousands will turn up although with the weather being so bad many will stay inside.
The evening is going to be wet and very windy, the temperature will be around 8c although with the windchill factor will make it feel more like 2 or 3c so it will be very cold.
If you are going tonight make sure you wrap up warm with a good waterproof jacket and waterproof shoes/boots.
We are aware of other places that have postponed celebrations due to weather conditions tonight which includes Blackpool and Edinburgh.
The weather is not going to get much better for New Years Day with the predicted stronger winds and yet more rain and the temperature dips to under 0c on Thursday and Friday, weather forecasters predict that some areas could see snow on Thursday and the risk of ice on untreated back roads and pavements.
If you are out tonight despite the weather remember not to be going home on your own more so if you are a woman, always bring a friend and get home safely!
